ISOLA DELLE CORRENTI PORTOPALO SIRACUSA SICILY

Isola delle Correnti Portopalo, province of Siracusa a small roundish island of Sicily, on the Ionian coast, located in the municipality of Portopalo, extended for about 10,000 square metres with a maximum height of 4 m above sea level.
Connected to the Mainland by a prosthetic arm, destroyed several times by the waves of the sea. When the tide turns the island into a peninsula, it is the southern tip of the island of Sicily.
The little island stands a lighthouse, where decades ago the lighthouse keeper was staying with his family, of rectangular shape with a large yard, and also in a deteriorating, being from years of use.
On the island grows little flora, but Wild leek seedlings abound, capers and other shrubs typical of the Mediterranean. Since 1987 the islet has been included in the city plan of parks and nature reserves, due to the presence of coastal vegetation with salt and sand relict biocenosis.
