PIAZZA ARMERINA ENNA SCATTIOLA DOOR

City gates/of Scattiola Via Mazzini, left Joseph's Church right Off SalvatoreDopo that of Castellina, continuing the story of the city gates of yesteryear, going up to Floor Theatines or Patrisanto (today piazza martyrs of Hungary), in the sense from the old town, we meet the Scattiola door.

This was the Church of St. Joseph, on the via Mazzini which before was called, because busy, la Carrera, just where in the photo you see the inscription Wide Salvatore.

Il name comes from the fact that that area, until the ' 50, was full of artisans who they crushed chalk for use in construction, once separated by the sulphur extracted from mines. Crushing was done with some kind of tool, strofinatoio type of wood used to wash your clothes in the tanks, which resembled a lot, obviously at least three times larger, at scattiole that were used during processions of the week Santa.

The scattiola is called in Italian bāttola, rattle, table, wooden board with handle that flustered as big Bell, makes herself up two other tablets huddled at the sides.
