shadow Palio of the Normans in Piazza Armerina Enna Sicily

The Palio of the Normans of Piazza Armerina Enna is a historical re-enactment of the victory of the Norman Christians led by Count Ruggero d'Altavilla who since 1061 fought against the Saracens considered unfaithful because they were Muslims.
It takes place from 1952 on 12, 13 and 14 August.

It was born at the end of the seventeenth century as "Cavalcata", a historical parade in honor of Maria Santissima delle Vittorie, considered to be the creator of Count's wars and the liberation of Sicily.
His banner was donated to the town by Count Ruggero and became the patron saint of Piazza Armerina. Today the Palio of Piazza Armerina is among the reconstructions of the most important medieval history Southern Italy.

It is articulated in three days:

    12 we see the delivery of weapons
    On the 13th delivery of the keys to the city to Count Ruggero;
    14th at the Quintana or Saraceno's carousel, which takes place at the Sant'Ippolito sports ground, four neighborhoods, represented by each of five horsemen, are challenged on horseback by supporting four skill tests.

1st Try: Hit the Saracen Shield with the launcher
2nd Try: Hit the Saracen Shield with the racing bat
3rd Try: Center and pick up a ring on the Saracen with the launcher
4th Try: Launch a javelin through a ring placed on a fork.

Concludes the evening with a parade with all the figures represented by the knights representing the winner.
