NORMAN PALIO

The most important event in Piazza Armerina is the Palio dei Normanni, which takes place from 12 to 14 August.

The most important medieval festival of the south is the historical re-enactment of liberation by the Normans in the 12th century of Sicily occupied by the Saracens for 150 years.
Reenactment in costume with ladies, horses, archers, soldiers, musicians, once also flag-wavers, is a suggestive atmosphere that culminates in the Saracen jousting on the last day, August 14, where the horses of the four neighborhoods compete in various tests of skill.
The party involves joy and lasts three days, it takes place every year since 1952.
